About Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest folk festival, held every year on the Theresienwiese in Munich. It began in 1810 with the wedding celebrations of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese.
It opens when the mayor of Munich taps the first keg and calls “O’zapft is!” Only beer from Munich breweries is served, in large tents with music, roast chicken and pretzels, and many visitors wear traditional dress, such as dirndls and lederhosen.
