About Canada Day
Canada Day marks the anniversary of July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act brought together the colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as a single country. It was called Dominion Day until 1982.
People celebrate with parades, concerts, barbecues and fireworks, and many wear red and white. The biggest event is held in Ottawa, on Parliament Hill.

- Find the fireworks and community events near you and check the start times.
- Plan a barbecue or picnic with friends and decide who’s bringing what.
- Get your red and white ready, whether it’s a shirt, a flag or face paint for the kids.
